Fire Alarms and Detection Systems
Design and Certification
As an employer or building owner, it is of paramount importance that you take on the responsibility of instructing a qualified Fire Safety Engineer to assess your site, in order to design a Fire Detection and Alarm System that is tailored to the needs of the premises. Because the structure and purpose of every building is different, there are no standard ‘one-size’ systems for fire detection. Therefore it is an employer’s legal obligation to ensure that their business has an adequate Fire Safety Plan in place to protect life and property.
Types of Fire Alarms and Detection Systems
Detection and Alarm System designs can vary significantly depending on the size, structure and purpose of a property. Designs can range from basic manual systems, to intelligent automatic systems. Fire Systems can be identified using categories: M, L and P, with some more complex systems combining features of 2 or more categories in order to meet the demands of the whole site.
M – Manual systems, such as hand bells for alerting people to a fire.
L – Systems designed to protect life.
P – Systems designed to protect buildings and property.
Cost-Effective Open-Protocol Systems, Certified by BAFE Registered Boden Fire Engineer
Boden Engineers are fully trained and qualified to carry out design consultations in accordance with the BS 5839-1:2013 Code of Practice, with a view to designing an adequate and comprehensive Fire Detection and Alarm System. All Boden design proposals will feature fully compliant components that are certified under the relevant standards. All designs will be issued with the relevant certification and signed by an authorised Boden Engineer.
Fire Prevention – The Responsibilities of Employers and Building Owners
Employers, service providers and/or building owners must be able to show that they have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure Fire Prevention in your workplace, and have assessed any risk to life and property. Without being able to show that you have taken all necessary precautions and assessed risks as far as reasonably possible, you could face a fine or prosecution. For more information, please see gov.uk for Fire and Safety in the Workplace guidelines.
Supply and Installation
Supplying Intelligent Fire Detection Systems to Homes, Businesses, Service Providers and Property Owners
Boden Fire and Security supply a wide range fire detection and alarm systems to homes, businesses and service providers across all industries. From domestic houses and retail premises, to government offices and MOD departments, Boden have the expertise to supply, install and commission an appropriate fire prevention system. Our products include:
- Optical Smoke Detectors are sensitive to the larger particles produced by slow burning fires and less suited to detecting the smaller particles of fast burning flames.
- Ionisation Smoke Detectors are sensitive to the small particles of smoke released by fast developing fires that have already produced a flame. They are slightly less effective at detecting large smoke particles produced by smouldering or slow burning fires that have yet to develop a flame.
- Heat Detectors are insensitive to smoke and are triggered by a sudden rise in temperature. Heat alarms have a fairly limited area of detection which means that they are best used as part of a system of multiple devices.
- Multi Sensor Detectors use both Optical and Heat systems – these are useful for preventing false alarms in areas such as on-suite bedrooms.
Professionally Installed Fire Detection Systems for Commercial Premises
Your Fire Detection System will be professionally installed and commission by a trained Boden Fire and Security engineer. They will make sure that the system is compliant with the needs of your risk assessment or with your supplied specification and/or design. This includes making adequate provisions for people with mobility difficulties, in accordance with DDI regulations if requested.
Commercial Domestic Fire Alarm Systems for Landlords
Don’t put off installing a fully functional and professional fire alarm system in your property. When it comes to protecting properties from the devastating effects of fire, it’s not worth taking risks with old, faulty or badly installed equipment.
Give Boden Fire and Security a call to arrange a visit by one of our dedicated fire and security engineers. They will form a detailed assessment of the property and make note of your requirements in order to design a suitable system that is tailored to your needs. Once designed and agreed, Boden will return to professionally fit and commission your system to make sure that it is safe to use and functioning properly. You will then be issued with the necessary certification documents.
Accredited by the British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE)
Boden Fire and Security are BAFE accredited (British Approvals for Fire Equipment). This certification is the industry’s mark of approval to assure customers that we are fully compliant with the SP203-1 scheme for the design, installation, commissioning/handover and maintenance of fire alarm and protection systems. Once fitted and commissioned, your engineer will issue you with the correct signed certification to show that the system meets all necessary requirements.
